The Area I Limited Energy apprenticeship program is a 2 or 3 year program designed to give students the experience and training necessary to earn the status of Limited Energy Technician. It is a combination of classroom instruction at Clackamas Community College in Wilsonville, Oregon, and work experience with approved employers.

What do Limited Energy Technicians do? - Limited Energy Technicians install, troubleshoot, maintain, replace & repair electrical systems under 100 volts. There are two types of Limited Energy licenses: Class A and Class B. Both types of licenses allow technicians to install communications systems, specialized control systems, and audio-visual systems. Class A technicians can also install protective signaling systems.

Application Scoring - Applicants who complete the National Career Readiness Certificate WorkKeys assessment, an interview, and attend an orientation will be placed into one of two applicant groups based on their overall score. Supporting documentation must be submitted as proof prior to points being granted.

National Career Readiness Certificate WorkKeys - Required
The NCRC WorkKeys is an evidence-based credential that certifies the essential skills for workplace success by verifing three foundational workplace skills: Applied Math; Workplace Documents; and Graphic Literacy. Scores from each of the three tests will be used as part of your overall application score. (Up to 7 points per test)

Training agents (employers registered with this apprenticeship program) can perform work locally, state-wide, and in other states. The following zone map is not an indication of where individual worksites might be located. The zone map is where individual company headquarters or offices are located. You may be asked to commute daily to the company location.
Below the zone map are some of the cities located in each county. Use this guide to determine which counties you would be willing to commute to daily.
IMPORTANT - You may check as many zones as you like, but if you turn down a job in a selected zone, you may be removed from consideration for the apprenticeship program
By submitting this online application, you will complete the first stage of the Area 1 Limited Energy Application process. To fully complete the process, you must complete the following steps:
1. Verify Email Address - You will receive an email with a verification link. You will have one hour to verify your email.
2. Complete the Training Agent Office Location Zone Request form - You will receive an email with a link upon email verification.
3. Complete a recorded online interview - Link will be sent by staff after review of your application.
4. Attend an online applicant orientation meeting - Date, time and link will be provided by staff via email.
