📖 Course Overview

Join this interactive course to gain the confidence to read and apply blueprints in the field.

Designed for beginners and those new to blueprint work, this class will teach you how to recognize essential electrical symbols, measure precisely using an architectural or engineering scale ruler, identify other-trade installations to avoid costly clashes, and interpret specifications and schedules to plan projects more effectively.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate blueprint sections: title block, legends, general notes, plans, elevations, details, schedules, and revisions
  • Interpret electrical symbols, line types, and project legends
  • Calibrate and measure distances on paper or PDF plan sets; convert scales; verify dimensions
  • Pull data from schedules and specifications: Extract essential details from lighting, panel, and equipment schedules, along with Division 26 specifications, to determine conductor sizes, raceway layouts, and installation requirements
  • Identify and resolve clash risks: Spot potential conflicts with HVAC, plumbing, and structural systems early, and propose field-ready solutions such as routing adjustments, elevation changes, or fitting modifications
  • Trace home runs, risers/one-lines, and device circuits to build a simple takeoff
  • Draft clear RFIs when prints/specs conflict, and track markups for turnover
